Prof. Se-Kwon Kim
Director of Marine Bioprocess Research Center (MBPRC) at Pukyong National University, Republic of Korea
 
Research fields: investigation and development of bioactive substances derived from marine organisms and their application in oriental medicine, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals via marine bioprocessing and mass- production technologies.
He was the editor in chief of the Korean Journal of Life Sciences (1995-1997), the Korean Journal of Fisheries Science and Technology (2006-2007), and the Korean Journal of Marine Bioscience and Biotechnology (2006-present). His research has been credited with the best paper award from the American Oil Chemist’s Society (AOCS) and the Korean Society of Fisheries Science and Technology in 2002. He has also conducted research on the development of bioactive materials from marine organisms for applications in oriental medicine, cosmeceuticals, and nutraceuticals. To date, he has authored over 600 research papers and holds 152 patents. In addition, he has written or edited more than 60 books.

Prof. Thomas T. Chen

Research Interests:
(1) structure, evolution and regulation of growth hormone and growth factor genes in finfish and shellfish; (2) molecular actions of growth hormone and growth factor; (3) expression of foreign growth hormone or anti-microbial peptide gene in transgenic fish; (4) anti-tumor activities of the E-peptides of pro-IGF-I; and (5) molecular toxicology: development of molecular biological probes for assessing stress in fish caused by environmental xenobiotic or other pollutants at sub-lethal levels.

Prof. Dr. Ichiro Maruyama
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), Japan
He received his Ph.D. from The University of Tokyo, Japan.  Subsequently he was trained as a post-doctoral fellow in MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK, where he started to work on the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans with an interest in its nervous system. He then moved to The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, USA, where he started to study molecular mechanisms underlying activation of cell-surface receptors. At OIST, Ichiro Maruyama continues to work on learning, memory and decision-making in C. elegans as well as on molecular mechanisms of transmembrane signaling mediated by cell-surface receptors.

Dr. Shlomo Yitzchaik

Research Interests:
Surface chemistry of molecular layers (self-assembled monolayers and multilayers) on solid surfaces and nanometric objects including porous silicon, carbon nanotubes and nanoparticles. Macromolecules design and synthesis as light and current responsive materials. Biosensors interfacing cells, proteins and small molecules.

Dr. Jamal Ouazzani
Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles, France
Dr. Jamal Ouazzani completed his PhD in applied microbiology in 1988 from Paris XI University, France and obtained a permanent research position at the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in 1989. Since 2002, he has acted as Research Director at the CNRS Institut de Chimie Des Substances Naturelles (ICSN) and has headed the ICSN Pilot Unit. He has engaged in diverse consulting activities since 1996, for environmental, cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies and is a leading expert in the field of bioremediation. He has published more than 59 publications in peer-reviewed journals, has obtained eleven patents and has benefited from European Commission grants in the context of four collaborative projects, including coordinating the project TASCMAR.

Dr. Yanmin Hu
Institute for Infection and immunity, St George’s University of London, UK
Dr Yanmin Hu has completed her PhD from St George’s Medical School, University of London. Dr Hu is currently a senior research fellow in the Institute of Infection and Immunity, St George’s University of London and the director of reaserch in Helperby Theropuetics UK, a Biotech company. Dr Hu is an international expert in her field with >20 years’ experience working with tuberculosis, other infectious disease and antibiotic discovery. Dr Hu has spearheaded a world-leading research group in developing novel methods of combating antibiotic resistance to a number of common resistant bacteria, such as MRSA and NDM-1 Gram-negative bacteria. She has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has many patented inventions.

He  has been the Secretary of IEEE India Council, Chair of IEEE-EMBS/IMS-Delhi Chapter and the Chairman of IEEE-Delhi Section, Dr Singh has been a visiting Professor recently for three years at Korea University; and for short-term at Pusan National University, South Korea. Presently, he has been a Distinguished Professor at NPL, New Delhi, India, and Thapar University.
Research fields: Nano-cancer-technology, electronics and communication, sensors and transducers, biomedical instrumentation, Nano-electronics, WSN and ubiquitous technology.

Senior scientist for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – 1973-1983; permit writer for first incinerators of PCBs
 
Published > 50 peer-reviewed articles; co-developer of Colilert- most widely used Total Coliform/E. coli  method for drinking water; multiple presentations in Canada, Taiwan, Singapore, Switzerland (WHO), Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, England, Scotland, and Germany.  Research has resulted in major regulatory changes, e.g. microbial enumeration methods do not indicate health risk. Multiple awards including “Best Paper of the Year”, American Water Works Association – The Plain Hard Truth About Pathogen Monitoring. Colilert method used extensively following major disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes) by federal, state, provincial health agencies to assure residents of the microbial safety if their drinking water.

Dr. Jayachandran Venkatesan

Investigation and development of materials from fish processing wastes and other marine sources. 
He is currently doing a research on biomaterials (Chitosan, Hydroxyapatite and carbon nanotube) with stem cell interaction for bone tissue engineering application. To date, he has published 100 research papers including book chapter and holds 4 patents.
